The EP opens with Sunday, a bass heavy, syrupy gnawa inspired head-nodder featuring Stimulus. It’s a song about the heavy descent from Sunday to Monday that all of us experience at some point. It’s also a song about how a single moment could mean a difference between life and death. Two Pints is all about the break-neck snapping beat and the shimmering sound of the classic prophet-6 synth. The track features Yamin Semali spitting potent bars of mildly slurred braggadocio and HD-level, visceral type imagery with a conscious underpinning. Through the Window is a straight boom bap joint – the only on the EP - laced with the sweetest flute arrangement courtesy of Philip Henzi (arrangement) and Adrian Pflugshaupt (flute). It also features Jneiro Jarel (of JJ & DOOM) with his signature bounce and free-associative writing style. The song is an anthem celebrating the healing necessity of introspection and the commitment to the pursuit of truth in music, a topic so dear to everyone involved in this project. The closing song, Live at Ease, which also features JJ and the soul singer Brandy Butler, is a kalimba and soul-clap driven invocation of the mother-ship, i.e. music as the portal to liberation (mental and spiritual). The synth solo was laid down by the beastly keys-man BIGYUKI (J. Cole, Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli) whom the fellas met back in NYC. It’s a perfect ending for an EP and a newly refurbished hyperlink leading back to a long tradition of soulful music designed to lead us out of the maze.
